A corpse of an 11-year-old boy, Master Umar Saleh was found semi-concealed in a polythene bag in Rumde Baru ward in Yola North local government area of Adamawa State.
The mutilated body was discovered by a passerby who quickly raised an alarm.
His eyes, tongue, nose, ears and genitals were severed.
According to the father of the victim, Mallam Sale Usman, the family had been looking for the victim for five days following his failure to return home after he escorted his little sister to the popular Jambutu Motor Park where she sells food, only for them to find his mutilated body later.
The discovery of Umar's mutilated has sparked apprehension as Yola residents have decried the increase in ritual activities in the area. Many residents say the trend is becoming rampant despite the one year emergency rule clamped on the state.
Some residents said they believed that the corpse had been dumped for about three days as it had completely decomposed.
Many of those who were interviewed were of the opinion that the development may not be unconnected with the upsurge in political activities as ritual activities are always high when politicking reaches its peak.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Usman Abubakar said that the Police is doing all it can to get to the root of the problem.
