Every nation has her own troubles.
Nigeria is not left out. Daily, new tales of horror in the North and
Insurgency in the south. But as Nigerians we have evolved into a recoil
nation. We have devised means of making ourselves happy in the midst of
woe. Some say is hope and faith, that no matter what happens, we should
find ways to make our self happy. I call it suffering and smiling. I
call it shying away from responsibility.
In my inner quest for discerning where
the revolution spirit of Nigeria lies, I found it strongest in murmuring
and complaining. And each time I think about it, the words of Japheth
Omojuwa comes to mind, “We are guilty of silence. We are guilty of a
shared delusion. We are guilty of wanting a country that works without
us working”. Our silence is not in our voice, our silence is in our
actions, our works.
Not that we are cowards, but we are too
hopeful that our complains alone can bring cause a wind of change for
good. We are aware of our plight as a nation, yet we seek to becomes
quack doctors, treating our malaria with vitamin C pills alone, and
hoping for magical recovery. After all, pills are meant to be taken when
one is sick, pill na pill now!
Like the title of an article I read
lately said, we need not deceive ourselves, a revolution is coming soon.
When you chase someone to the wall, and there is no where else to turn,
the person will turn around and fight you. But in Nigeria’s case we
have broken the legendary proverb, we device means to climb or break
through the wall, while complaining and questioning our good minds for
reasons of the chase at all.
Meanwhile the people, the cabal
controlling the destiny of this nation, the evil men who are constantly
looting away our resources are more sleepless than we are. Daily they
are working hard at new ways and tactics of reaping us off. They are
opening new avenues and not relenting of their goal of enriching
themselves. Why? Because they know that we will only complain, murmur
and adapt to the new hardship they are inflicting on us everyday. Their
mantra is “chase to kill, if miss killing, cut his heels”.
If we want new wine, we must prepare new
vessels to hold it. We need to shed off our old wine skin of complaining
and wishing for change without work. Like the saying goes, be careful
what you wish for, you might just get it. Let’s not deceive ourselves,
the new wine is one the way, because one day we shall all wake and
discover that we have been sold. Murmuring won’t help.
Be ready. Grid up, lest the new wine happen to you rather than you happening to it. He that has ear…. be wise.
