antisocial gorilla sent for therapy amid sexism claims at Dallas Zoo

Sexist gorilla sent for therapy Sexist: Patrick the gorilla has left Dallas Zoo for therapy (Picture: AP /Dallas Zoo) An unsociable male gorilla is being sent for therapy over his ‘sexist’ attitude towards female apes, Dallas Zoo has confirmed.

Patrick, a 195kg (430lb) western lowland gorilla, is heading to another zoo in South Carolina for treatment after failing to strike up a meaningful relationship in over 18 years in Dallas.
He will live the bachelor life in his own digs at the zoo which specialises in working with gorillas with behavioural problems.
It appears the final straw came when misbehaving Patrick, who was abandoned by his mother, bit one female gorilla and sneered angrily at others.
‘It’s not like we haven’t tried, he’s been here for 18 years,’ explained Dallas Zoo spokeswoman Laurie Holloway.
Patrick had been slightly more tolerant of fellow male gorilla Jabari, but he was tragically shot dead by Dallas police in 2004 after escaping from the zoo.
And the antisocial ape also appeared to have little time for the zoo’s newest addition, a break-dancing gorilla called Zola.
It is hoped a rehabilitated Patrick will make new friends at Riverbanks Zoo and eventually move in with his fellow males.
‘He’s beautiful and smart and everyone loves him,’ Ms Holloway added. ‘We’re really sad to see him go but it’s for the best for the zoo and for Patrick.’
