According to police reports, Mary and her children, Ubong Akpan, 25, and Aniette Akpan, 33 allegedly assaulted a pregnant woman, Mrs Chioma Onwu at No.16, Molushi Avenue, Surulere, Lagos.
The accused family are now facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Edet Okoi, said the woman and her children conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace when they assaulted the pregnant woman.
Okoi alleged that the accused also assaulted the complainant (the pregnant woman) by calling her a mad woman.
According to him, the accused committed the offences at 9.00 a.m on March 13 at their residence.
Okoi said the accused may be sentenced to a three-year imprisonment on conviction because they contravened Sections 166 (d), 172 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the trio entered a plea of 'not guilty'.
While adjourning the case to May 15 for mention, the Magistrate, Mrs Margaret Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.
