Frustrated with the down turn his business is going, a middle aged man has decided to end it all by bathing his wife with substance suspected to be acid before drinking the remaining.
Though the wife survived the attack and is battling for her life at the Gwarinpa General Hospital in the Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, her husband was not that lucky as he lost his life in the process.
The unfortunate incident, according to eyewitnesses, happened at Gwagwa in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, when the man who reportedly sold foodstuffs at the town’s market, shocked everyone with his action.
Both of them had to be rushed to hospital by sympathisers where he was confirmed dead, leaving the wife in a critical condition.
A family source attributed the action of the dead man to frustration over his indebtedness to business partners. The source added that the man, who had another wife at his home state of Enugu and other children there, was closer to the one he was living with at Gwagwa.
The source added that the deceased bought quantities of foodstuffs from the northern states to his shop which was managed by his wife at Gwagwa market but he became frustrated after he tried to recover money made from sales in order to refund his suppliers but was unsuccessful, and when the pressure from the customers was too much, including threats of having him arrested, he had to take the drastic measure instead of facing the embarrassment of being arrested or disgraced by his creditors
