Some holders of the Higher National Diploma have sued the Federal Government for alleged discrimination in promotion, employment and remuneration against them in public service.
Comments:
Say It: Over the years, policy makers in the education sector have embarked on a deliberate policy of making polytechnic education unattractive to prospective students. Polytechnics are not only understaffed and under-funded, products of the system are treated as dregs of the society through discriminatory employment policies or outright exclusion from employment opportunities.

Even having HND with professional qualifications does not guarantee freedom from discrimination. It is not uncommon to see an advertisement, such as “candidate must be a degree-qualified chartered accountant”.
With this type of mindset, it should not be difficult to fathom why student enrolment into the polytechnics is declining every year. It will get worse unless urgent steps are taken to address the institutionalised discrimination against polytechnic education in Nigeria.
Fatusin: May God bless this people that have gone to court on behalf of the under-privileged HND graduates of this country. I sincerely hope that this case will be successful like the case of the now famous lawyer, Emmanuel Ofoegbu, who sued the Federal Road Safety Corps over the issuance of new number plates by the agency. The majority of us suffering this unwarranted discrimination in silence will offer our solidarity to this cause.
Medo Sam: The discrimination targeted at HND graduates in the corporate world is unfortunate. This is one of the reasons why Nigeria has continued to be a consuming nation rather than a producer of goods.
Any country that fails to encourage technical education is definitely bound to fail in the comity of nations. We have a lot to learn from the advanced world.
