Attahiru Jega has handed over the chairmanship of the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) to Mohammed Wali, a national
commissioner of the electoral body from the north-west. Jega handed over
to Wali at the INEC headquarters in Abuja. Six other national
commissioners also ended their tenure.
They are: M.K. Hammanga, Adamawa state, (northeast); Ishmael Igbani,
Rivers state, (south south); Lai Olurode, Osun state, (south west);
Gladys Nwafor, Abia state, (south east); Thelma Iremiren, Delta state,
(south south); and Nuru Yakubu, Yobe state, (north east).
While his five-year tenure lasted, Jega conducted two general elections
in 2011 and 2015 and the elections were adjudged to be better than some
of the previous ones.
Last week, Jega, a former vice-chancellor of the Bayero University Kano
(BUK) and
Petr Cech is now an Arsenal player after he joined the Gunners from Chelsea on a long-term contract for an undisclosed fee.
Arsenal announced the news on their twitter feed on Monday.
Cech
made over 400 appearances during 11 years at Stamford Bridge, winning
multiple club and personal honours. He also won the Premier League
Golden Glove award on three occasions.
The
33-year-old goalkeeper, who made his international debut in 2002, is a
seven-time Czech Footballer of the Year. He currently has 114 caps for
his country - four short of countryman Karel Poborsky’s all-time record.
"When
Arsène Wenger spoke to me about his ambitions for this club, and how he
saw me as part of this team, the decision was clear." Cech stated on
Arsenal's official website.
