OGD, Bamidele’s Entrance Into Labour Party Forces National Legal Adviser To Resign

The Labour Party has been hit by crisis following the resignation of its National Legal Adviser, Mr. Biodun Fasakin on Wednesday.
Fasakin linked his resignation to what he called the wrongful composition of the State Working Committee of the party and the defection of a member of the House of Representatives, Opeyemi Bamidele, into the party.

Fasakin noted that Bamidele’s acceptance into the party and the imposition of the Akin Omole-led interim executives in Ekiti State flouted the party’s constitution.

Speaking at a press briefing in Ado Ekiti on the recent development in the LP yesterday, Fasakin said the party’s constitution was being flouted in Ekiti and Ogun states.

He argued that the party could have conducted a state congress to elect its executive members rather than imposing candidates.

His letter dated January 6, 2014, and addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Dan Iwuanyanwu, Fasakin said, “LP is a party that could easily capture power if system is allowed to work in accordance with the constitution of the party without recurrent arbitrary manipulations.

“The latest happenings in the party are aberrations and palpable disregard for due process.

“It is against this backdrop that I, hereby, formally notify you of my resignation as the National Legal Adviser of the Labour Party forthwith”.

He stated further that allowing Bamidele’s men to hijack the party in Ekiti State at the expense of the validly elected members could spell doom for the party.

In apparent reference to the way the former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, hijacked the party, Fasakin said, “There are rules a new entrant must follow before he can be accepted.

“He must declare at the ward and local government levels. But nothing of such happened in the case of Bamidele and Gbenga Daniel and the party ignored my advice which I cannot overlook”, he added.
