LIFE IS A MARATHON
LIFE IS A MARATHON
Long distance races are known to be gruelling and punishing – but also very rewarding and a sense of pride to those that finish the race. That’s how life is and today we’ll learn about how to approach life – like it is a marathon. Because it IS…
• IT’S ABOUT THE GOAL, NOT THE SUFFERING ALONG THE WAY. If you keep considering how much you have suffered in life and how adverse the situations are, chances will be that you will not finish the ‘race’ of life well. Runners will tell you that you that its best to focus on a tree or large object ahead so you can keep running. Do the same with your life.
• REALISE YOU NEED THE SUPPORT OF OTHERS
Marathons are characterised by fans and crowds cheering all along the race’s distance. Some even hand water to the runners. You cant go through life alone. You need ‘fans’, supporters, vision helpers and partners. Some will be for just certain seasons; others for your entire life. Just don’t seclude yourself and think you can ‘go it alone’. You might faint on the way!
• DO GREAT THINGS OUT OF LOVE
Marathons are about cancer support and other great causes. People run for the good of others. Live your life for others and make input in other people.
• PACE YOURSELF; DON’T SPRINT
Marathons aren’t over in a flash. Typically lasting hours, they require strategy just as much as skill and ability. Before you start projects or ventures in life, have a plan. And even after you do, give yourself time and don’t give up because things don’t materialise as you want. Hang in there.
• THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS
With the race in public glare, its impossible to take a shorter, more convenient route other than that set by the race coordinators. Doing so will lead to the runner being disqualified. And though it doesn’t seem as such in life, it really is the same.
• ITS NOT ABOUT FINISHING FIRST
While it is great to finish first in a long distance race, everyone who finishes gets commendation. Life isnt about who ‘made it first’ but more about those who have overcome great difficulties with whatever situations life has brought them. Refuse the pressure of when you make it and simply run your course.
HOW DO YOU SEE LIFE? ANY SIMILARITIES WITH A MARATHON?
