LONDON: Britain has joined the list of nations where gay marriage is
legal. This is following the royal assent given to a bill by Queen
Elizabeth II on Wednesday, according to the British Ministry of Culture.
The bill was approved by lawmakers.
What that means is that in Mama Charlie’s land, same-sex couples will
be able to marry as from 2014, the legislation was actively pushed
through by the Prime Minister, David Cameron, even if dozens of his own
conservative lawmakers opposed the move. Inside the parliament, it was
celebration galore as members cheered the ‘historic’ bill. The first gay
weddings are expected to come up by mid-2014 because the government is
still working out the effects it will have on pensions.
